PASSION

I am Daina Whitelaw, owner and founder of Daizen based in Glasgow. I am passionate about massage therapies and how their health enriching benefits can optimize your well being by helping you rest, relax and support your own self-care journey and goals.

With this in mind, I have created my own signature therapies offered to a wide variety of clients that have tried, tested and commended (see our Testimonials) them with conditions ranging from neck pain and back problems to post cancer rehab and anxieties about weight-loss. After years of knowledge gathering in Eastern herbal medicines and bodywork, I have put this passion into practice whilst working with professionals who work in high-stress environments – long hours, unrealistic demands and lack of support issues. Witnessing first-hand how on-going, chronic stress in the workplace can cause or exacerbate poor physical health and harms mental health, has made me appreciate the seriousness of the problem – motivating me to help improve their health and mine too.

HEALING

The best benefit of massage is its ability to reduce the ‘chronic/bad’ stress in our lives unlike the "good stress," or what psychologists refer to as "eustress, which we need.

Massage has had a positive effect on every medical condition we have looked at.
Professor Tiffany Field, Ph. D., Director, Touch Research Institute, University of Miami

It was alarming to read from a UK wide survey that 74% have at some point during 2019 felt so stressed that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope. The survey, commissioned by the Mental Health Foundation, also found that 32% had experienced suicidal thoughts or feelings because of stress and 16% said they had self-harmed because of feelings of stress.

Stress symptoms - Physical effects of stress on the body

The Mental Health Foundation research UK has shown that ongoing, chronic stress can cause or exacerbate many serious health problems, including: Mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, and personality disorders and Cardiovascular disease (e.g. heart disease) along with insomnia, digestive problems and immune system problems.

Massage as a Preventative

Massage is a powerful tool in its use to reduce stress (not only as an indulgence to feel good!). As a preventive measure, regular massage puts you more in tune with your body. The consistency of massage therapy over time creates a cumulative stress-reduction effect. Using a variety of non-invasive, complementary therapies, supported by research, I address an individual’s needs by focusing on the whole person to achieve the best stress-relieving results.
