What to expect during a Daizen massage treatment

Meet and greet

Once you arrive at Daizen, you will be asked to fill out a consultation form to record any relevant medical history, injuries or physical conditions we should be aware of. We recommend arriving 15 mins early for your appointment to complete these forms.

Starting your session

The form will be with you and we discuss the reasons for your visit & any specific areas you would like to address during your massage. Sessions time includes 15 mins for consultation and dressing.

Getting prepared

Your massage session is in a tranquil, private room. I’ll leave the room to allow you to disrobe and lie down on the table under the top sheet. You may prefer to completely disrobe or remain partially clothed. During your session, I will only uncover the area of your body that I shall be working on.

After your massage

When your massage is complete, I will wait outside the room so you may dress. When you’re ready, I will return to give you a glass of water or tea.

Stay relaxed

During your massage, relax your muscles and your mind. Breathe normally and try not to tighten or contract your muscles. From time to time I will ask you to let me know if any of the techniques are causing discomfort or pain.

During your massage

The massage you choose is all about you. Communication is key to receiving the most effective treatment for achieving your relaxation and wellness goals. So, it is important that you inform me of any issues with the massage - I shall be enquiring from time to time for your input too.

Are there times when I shouldn’t have a massage?

Therapy Aftercare advice for 24 hours

  1. Try to rest and relax after the therapy - This will help to maximise the effectiveness of the treatment.

  2. You may need to use the toilet more frequently - The treatment may have stimulated your kidneys and bladder which help to clear away waste products.

  3. Drink plenty of water - This will help the elimination of waste products.

  4. Eat a light diet and try to reduce stimulants like coffee, alcohol and nicotine - This will aid the body in cleansing and allow the body to concentrate energy on cleansing and natural healing. Also if clary sage essential oil is used in your therapy avoid alcohol as it may cause drowsiness.

  5. Try not to bathe or shower for at least 12 hours after treatment and avoid using any perfumed products during that time - This will help to maximise the effectiveness of the essential oils used and minimise any risk of skin irritation. The time that the effects last on a person can vary from 3 to 24 hours and can be up to 2-3 days depending on the oils used.

  6. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight and sun beds after treatment - Some oils irritate the skin if exposed to sunlight e.g. lemon, lime, bergamot or grapefruit essential oils.

Contra-actions are reactions to treatment and are perfectly normal

You may experience: headaches, nausea, heightened emotional state, heightened sensitivity and tiredness followed by less energetic or more energetic and aching muscles after a massage.
